Alyson Michalka and Ashley Tisdale star in the new CW cheerleading drama “Hellcats,” based on the book “Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders” by Kate Torgovnick.

Michalka plays the role of Marti Perkins, a law student at Lancer University, who discovers that her scholarship has been canceled and her well-meaning but irresponsible mother, Wanda, has neglected to inform her. Broke and out of options, Marti realizes the only way she can stay in school is to win a place on the Hellcats – Lancer’s legendary cheer squad – and the scholarship that comes with it.

Tisdale plays Savannah Monroe, the captain of the Hellcats. Described as “peppy and petite” with “fierce intensity”, she initially clashes with Marti, but realizes she is the godsend the Hellcats need to win the championship.

Michalka is best known as part of the pop duo Aly & AJ (AJ is sister Amanda).  Tisdale is known for her role as Sharpay Evans in Disney’s High School Musical franchise.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi had her day in court Wednesday and the judge was clearly not amused or impressed by the antics of the Jersey Shore celeb.

He asked her if her drunken actions on the Seaside Heights boardwalk back in July were “scripted for the show”.  She said that her actions on the day of her arrest were totally her own doing.

His Honor used some choice words to describe Snooki’s recent behavior: “rude, profane, obnoxious and self indulgent.”

The no-nonsense judge gave Snooki a stern lecture and suggested that her outrageous actions sent a message to the court that she is a “Lindsay Lohan wannabe” and “criminally annoying” too.

He levied a $500 fine, plus $33 in court costs.  She will also have to perform two days of community service scooping poop for a local animal shelter.

Halle Berry and her Dark Tide co-star, French actor Olivier Martinez, appeared to be more than mere working partners on break from the set as they strolled the streets of Paris on Sunday.

Arm in arm, they made their way through the City of Lights and looked like they were enjoying the moment and each other to the nth degree.

They sped off on his motorcycle and later enjoyed a cozy dinner at Casa Bini restaurant before taking a walking tour of the narrow streets that led back to his apartment.  They even stopped in a lighted doorway for a long kiss.

The couple have been filming an action thriller in South Africa.  Halle plays a modern-day adventurer who hooks up with her former lover, played by Martinez.  She’ll be rocking a bikini – a guaranteed 2011 box office blockbuster.

Angelina Jolie has been on a United Nations relief mission to flood-ravaged northwestern Pakistan.  The actress, in her role an a UN goodwill ambassador, visited refugee camps and is using her celebrity status in an international appeal for aid.

The U.N. needs $460 million to meet the needs of the region, and is only a third of the way to their goal.

Jolie, wearing a long black robe and black headscarf trimmed in red, met with parents who had lost their children and Pakistani elders who feared their homes could never be rebuilt.  More than 1,700 have died and 17 million have been affected in some way by the floods.

She told reporters: “I am very moved by them and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan.”

Jolie called the situation “extraordinarily complex”, noting that effects of the flooding were complicated by refugees already displaced from Afghanistan.

During the season premiere of The View this morning, host Whoopi Goldberg announced that her mother Emma Johnson died of a stroke on August 29.

Goldberg rushed back to the U.S. from London, where she had been living this summer while performing in a stage production of Sister Act. She left the show on Friday and her mother passed two days later.

Whoopi talked about her mother, who earned a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education at NYU.  She described her mother as “one of the great women and one of the best people I’ve had the privilege of knowing.”

She went on to say: “I’m not sad, because she had a good time.  My mother was a great adventure person, so she loved to go on adventures and my brother and I made sure that her life was full and rich.”

Perhaps her most poignant observation was this: “I think I’m just sad sometimes that I think, ‘Who will love me the way that she did?’  But I realize that my brother and I have each other and so we’re ok.”

Goldberg’s grown daughter Alexandrea Martin was also very close to her grandmother.

According to sources, David and Victoria Beckham are putting their English mansion “Beckingham Palace” on the market.

The Beckhams recently had the Georgian-style mansion appraised at £18,000,000.  That’s a significant profit for the couple who bought the home for £2,5,000,000 in 1999.

Although the home has not been officially listed, a spokeswoman for the Beckhams said “I can confirm David and Victoria have had their UK home valued.”

Located in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, the 24-acre estate boasts indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a recording studio, tennis courts, a petting zoo, a garden pavillion with marble floor and 4ft grill, three gazebos and a recording studio.

A source close to the family says: “Frankly they cannot see themselves ever returning to make London their full-time base.

“The children are settled, speak with American accents and David and Victoria are immersed in the laid-back Los Angeles way of life.

“They love it there – they’re well liked, have plenty of friends and feel it’s their spiritual home.”

Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, 20, is the #1 seed going into the 2010 U.S. Open.  At 5′10″ and 128 lbs, the right-handed player turned pro in 2005.

If she wins it all at the 2010 U.S. Open she will overtake Serena Williams as the World No. 1 player.  Williams was forced to withdraw after stepping on glass and injuring her foot.  She will miss her first Grand slam event since Wimbledon 2006.

Wozniacki beat Maria Sharapova, who dates Charlie Ebersol, in the 4th Round Monday and will advance to the Quarterfinal match.  Up next for “Woz” is Dominika Cubulkova, ranked 45th.

We thought we had seen it all when Venus Williams revealed more than her athletic skills during the French Open.  She is flaunting her underwear once again at the U.S. Open.

The tennis star and fashion designer has been sporting several sheer dresses that she designed to be worn over flesh colored underwear.  Fans and competitors have seen way more of Williams than they ever imagined.  The form fitting dresses have a tendency to ride up at the slightest provocation — causing Venus to spend more time adjusting than swinging her racket.

The CBS commentators started to count the number of times Venus tugged the garment back into place.  When asked, following her Sunday win, if the constant need to readjust had been a source of distraction, Williams replied: “No.  The only thing that bothered me was when I didn’t win the point.  That was it.”

While wearing the pink sheer outfit she defeated No. 18 seed Shahar Peer in straight sets.  She chose an identical style in black for her Friday match, and handily beat Mandy Minella of Luxembourg.

Will we see a similar outfit on Tuesday when Venus goes head to head against Francesca Schiavone of Italy in the Quarterfinals?  Count on it…

Britney Spears appears on the cover of the latest issue of POP magazine and she is rocking a wedding dress.

The pop princess ‘tweeted’ a sneak peek last week and we’ve just come across it…apologies if you’ve already feasted your eyes on the photo but we just couldn’t pass up posting it.

Not only does Brit rock a wedding dress, she recently flaunted a super sexy bikini in Hawaii.
